First Day Hikes on New Year’s Day

Kick off the new year and get a jump on those resolutions by lacing up and heading out to one of Georgia’s State Parks and Historic Sites to celebrate First Day Hikes on New Year’s Day.  With more than 40 guided treks, family and friends will be able to welcome 2023 in the outdoors. Distance and difficulty vary from park to park, allowing hikers of all levels to connect with nature and each other.  First Day Hikes is a national initiative created to encourage people to get out and explore the great outdoors. Hikers are invited to enjoy the beauty and inspiration found in nature that awaits right in Georgia’s backyard.  This is the perfect experience for the whole family, even our furry family members are invited to join, as many guided hikes are dog friendly. Visitors are welcome to bring picnics to enjoy before or after their adventure. First Day Hikes are listed online.  For guests who want to celebrate New Year’s Eve surrounded by fresh air rather than fireworks, Georgia’s State Parks offer cozy cabins, heated yurts, lodge rooms, and modern campsites.  Fireworks and sparklers are not allowed in state parks, making them a peaceful choice for the holiday. For reservations, call 1-800-864-7275 or book online at GaStateParks.org.
