Financial Identity Fraud reported in Clayton

On June 24, a deputy of the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office met with a Clayton woman in reference to her filing a report for identity theft.  She stated that she received a HSA card in the mail with her name on it even though she did not sign up for a HSA account.  She called HSA to report it and they told her that a minor opened the account in her name by providing her Social Security number, date of birth, and address.  She immediately cancelled the account.  The deputy recorded the HSA numbers for investigators and suggested that she call the credit bureaus as well to report the issue to them so that they could put extra checks in place on her Social Security number.
