Electrical fire wreaks havoc on Lake Rabun historic house

In the middle of the night, multiple fire units were dispatched in reference to a house on Lake Rabun that caught fire.

At 1:03 a.m. Friday morning, Rabun County Fire Station’s 4, 7, and 12 were dispatched to a report of an electrical smell/possible fire at 643 Lake Rabun Rd.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Justin Upchurch, the first unit on scene advised that the
house was filling with smoke and that there was fire in the wall.

The fire, believed to be electrical in nature, traveled up the inside of the walls and into the attic of the 1920’s lake house.

Station’s 6 and 10 were additionally requested for manpower as the fire continued to grow.

“It took firefighters approximately 1 ½ hours to bring the fire under control and crews were on scene until 6 a.m. ensuring that all of the fire was extinguished and cooled in the residence,” Upchurch said.

No individuals were hurt from the structure fire.
