Early Voting underway in Rabun County

The line was long on the first day of early voting in Rabun County.  Tammy Whitmire, Elections Supervisor for Rabun County, said unfortunately due to COVID-19 the wait was long as well.  “Well, even though it was a rainy day I thought the first day went well and we had 62 people come in to vote.  Again I would just like to remind people that we are under social distancing so it takes a little bit longer for you to come in and vote.  Early voting will be Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 5pm, from now until June 5.”  Absentee ballots are still being accepted, adds Whitmire.  “We have 3,991 people that have asked for an absentee ballot, out of those we have 1,593 already returned.  We just want to encourage those that have an absentee ballot you have time to get those back in.  We do have a dropbox in front of the office if you would like to come by and drop it off instead of mailing it.  But for those that have absentee ballots, there’s 2,398 of you, you still have time to get those back in or request one if you haven’t done so yet.”  The dropbox is located in front of the Elections Office at 18 Old Raco High Drive in Clayton. Voters may drop off any election-related correspondence including absentee ballots. The box number is 105.
