Early Voting for the May Primary Runoff Begins Today

With the fourth of July officially behind us, residents of Rabun, Towns, Union, and White Counties are now preparing for yet another election.

The May Primary election, which featured the District 8 House, ended in a runoff, as neither of the four running candidates received over 50% of the vote. The top two contenders, Matt Gurtler and Kent Woerner, both of Rabun County, will face each other in a runoff election, beginning today with early voting’s kickoff.

Early voting can be done in Clayton, at the Rabun County Board of Elections. Hours are from 8:30 until 5PM, Monday through Friday, from today until July 22. There is also a special Saturday voting period on July 16th, from 9 until 4.

Since this is a runoff election, the rules will be tweaked from the May Primary. Those who voted “Republican”, and those who were registered to vote during the May Primary, are eligible to vote. However, if you voted “Democrat” or were not registered to vote for the May primary, you will not be allowed to vote. This rule is due to a runoff election, being a continuation of the May Primary, where the same rules apply.

The Board of Elections is located in Clayton, at 19 Jo Dotson Circle.
