Eagles host Baylor Red Raiders in Season Opener

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School Eagles varsity football team kicks off the season at home this Friday night, August 19, 2022.  New Head Football Coach Derek White makes his debut leading the Eagles in the home opener versus the Baylor Red Raiders.  Everyone is excited about the home opener, says Rabun Gap Director of Sports Information and Assistant to the Athletic Director Coach Connor Cohea.  “We’re very excited to open up the season here at home against a big-time powerhouse team from Chattanooga like Baylor.  A lot of respect to them, they’re a very good football team but we’re also very excited about our guys.  We have a lot of new kids also with a new coaching staff.  Obviously, starting with the head man, Coach Derek White, who is entering his first season, coaching his first game at Rabun Gap.  It’s been a process.  On August 1, everyone is arriving, the first day of practice, and just having a little bit over two weeks to get ready for our first game.  Unfortunately, we are not able to practice all throughout the summer like some teams but we are very excited, we’re prepared, and we’re ready to go.  It should be a fun one.  It should be a packed house from both sides.  Zavala Family Stadium is going to be rocking.  We’re expected to have roughly between 1,000-1,200 people.”  If you can’t make it to the game between the Eagles and Red Raiders Friday night at 7pm, you can listen live on Real Country 100.3.
