Eagles fall to Red Raiders in Football Season Opener

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School Eagles’ varsity football team lost their season opener Friday night, August 19, 2022, to the Baylor Red Raiders by a score of 38-21.  Here’s the voice of Rabun Gap varsity football on Real Country 100.3, Peyton Brady.  “This is Peyton Brady here with a recap of the Rabun Gap Eagles’ first varsity home game of the season against the Baylor School.  Rabun Gap was defeated 38-21 by the Red Raiders here at Zavala Family Stadium.  In the first quarter, Baylor takes the opening drive with a 32-yard touchdown pass.  Rabun Gap responds on their first drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to tie up the game 7-7.  Baylor’s second drive, #34 will drive in with a 1-yard touchdown run making the game 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.  The beginning of the second quarter was a big quarter defensively for the Rabun Gap Eagles.  Starting off, #2 Walker Bryson with the interception and the 50-yard carry.  Then #7 Nickolas Roy had a fumble recovery for the Eagles.  Baylor’s #34 once again will score a 74-yard touchdown run making the score 21-7.  #5 Gavin Owens from Rabun Gap connected with #9 Marshall Prichett on the pass making the score 21-14 putting Rabun Gap back on the board making it a 7-point difference.  Coming into the third quarter, #21 Onis Konanbanny of Rabun Gap had a fumble recovery.  Then for the second time, #5 Gavin Owens connected with #9 Marshall Pritchett on the touchdown pass for 21-yards making the game tied 21-21.  Baylor will respond to that with a 9-yard touchdown run making the game 28-21.  Baylor will finish off the third quarter with a 22-yard field goal boasting their lead to 10-points, 31-21 the Red Raiders in the lead.  Coming into the fourth quarter, Baylor starts off with another touchdown by running back #34, a 25-yard run making the score 38-21.  Rabun Gap tries to come back from that but falls short and Baylor will end up taking a knee at the end of the fourth quarter and taking home this win.  For Real Country 100.3, I’m Peyton Brady.”  Rabun Gap now travels to play Sequoyah High School on Friday, August 26, at 7:30pm.  The next Eagles’ game on Real Country 100.3 will be Friday, September 16, when Rabun Gap hosts Christ School at 7pm in Zavala Family Stadium.
