As 2012 comes to a close, drought conditions throughout the county are improving; however, not all throughout the nation are faring the same fate.

Currently, Rabun County is in the moderate drought classification. That is an improvement, as for the entire rest of December, all or most of the county was in a severe drought.

The rest of the region, including Habersham County, Stephens County, Oconee County, South Carolina and Macon County, North Carolina, are also facing moderate drought conditions.

Over 99% of the state of Georgia is in some form of dry or drought conditions, according to the latest statistics from the United States Drought Monitor.

The last time Rabun County was totally drought free was October 30th of this year.
