Drop in September Unemployment Rate in Georgia Mountains Regional Commission  

The Georgia Mountains Regional Commission recorded a drop in its unemployment rate in September, reports the Georgia Department of Labor.  The September preliminary unemployment rate was down five-tenths to 2.2% over the month, the rate was 2.4 percent one year ago.  The labor force was up 1,265 over the month and down 125,255 over the year to 238,458.  The number of employed was up 2,418 over the month and down 121,864 over the year to 233,224.  Initial claims were up by 8 or 1% over the month and up by 101 or 16% over the year to 725.  There were 3,752 jobs posted on Employ Georgia for the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission, which is comprised of Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties.  Additionally, the Georgia Department of Labor reports that all Regional Commissions in the state recorded drops in unemployment rates in September and employment rose in all Regional Commissions as well.  According to these latest numbers, Georgia now has the fewest unemployed residents in over 20 years.
