Don’t advertise Christmas Gifts to Thieves

I know Santa was very good to everyone this year and brought gifts to celebrate the holidays.  Be careful how you dispose of those boxes that gifts come in because those boxes could be an advertisement to thieves, says Clayton Police Chief Andy Strait.  “So many times we open our gifts and a lot of electronics are the choice of Christmas now and folks are putting the boxes on the front porch or to the side of the trash can and waiting on it to be picked up.  These are things that folks look for as they drive by your house.  They see these boxes and are like hey this couple just got a new flatscreen or they just got a new computer.  So, basically, you are just advertising when I’m not home you’re welcome to come in and get my new electronics.  So, just be mindful when you dispose of your trash, especially right after the holidays that people are watching.  They’re looking for things that you may have gotten that are high-value and things that they can make a quick buck off of.  So, just be very mindful of disposing of your trash and if you are able to take it directly to the waste recycle center as quickly as you can.”  Take the time to recycle cardboard boxes, if you can, so you stay on Santa’s good list for next year.
