Darnell Creek Structure Fire

Rabun County Fire Services responded to a report of a structure fire at 155 Darnell Creek Road in Rabun Gap. Rabun County 911 received the call at approximately 11:27am on 03/30/2021 for a house on fire with flames showing. The first arriving personnel advised that the structure was 40% involved. Engine 1, Tanker 1, Engine 5, and Tanker 5 arrived shortly and began the fire attack. A quick knockdown was achieved on the 1000 square foot block structure with approximately 3500 gallons used to extinguish. The homeowner was at home but outside with his pets when he heard a loud pop and was met with flames when he opened the door. He believed that a cell phone charger could have been the cause of the fire due to where the initial fire was located. The fire spread quickly due to the exposed wood paneling as well as the block exterior walls holding much of the heat in. Fire personnel were on scene for approximately 2 hours. No injuries were reported.
