Cumming Man arrested after Chase in Rabun County

A Cumming man faces five charges from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office after a chase on July 10.  Around 11pm, a deputy was dispatched to the area of Persimmon Road for a motor vehicle crash.  The deputy was informed that a 2004 Jeep Liberty had left the scene.  A short time later, the deputy spotted the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop but the vehicle continued down the road.  The vehicle failed to stop at the intersection of Persimmon Road and Georgia 2 West and instead ran over the signs there.  The vehicle continued on Georgia 2 West towards Towns County.  Just before the second entrance to Waterfall Country Club, the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway down an embankment.  The driver, 61-year-old Jackie Ray Hutchison of Cumming, was arrested for attempting to elude an officer, failure to maintain lane, hit and run, failure to obey a stop sign, and driving while license suspended.  He was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the wreck and later transported to the Rabun County Detention Center for booking on the five charges.
