Crews Hike Half Mile Into Woods For Rescue

Rescue workers assist a man who fell while fishing in the Northeastern part of the county last week.

Rabun County EMA Director Marty Dixon said the call came in around 3:30 in the afternoon on Thursday.

“We responded out to Overflow Area on Warwoman for a gentleman who had fallen and had a leg injury,” said Dixon. “Some guys had to hike in about half a mile and extricate him from the woods. He was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.”

Dixon said that the terrain in that area can be very difficult.

“Looking at a topographical map, the lines are sometimes touching for the elevation changes, and the valleys, and the gulleys, and the embankments 0ut there.

Regarding the weather, only isolated downed trees and power outages are reported following storms over the weekend.
