Council Votes Down One-Way

No portion of Hiawassee Street in Downtown Clayton is going to be one way.

The council held a public hearing on the issue this past Tuesday, and then last night, the council voted and made it official.

Councilman Buff Green spoke up about the reasons to not proceed, and then made the motion for the city to drop the idea.

“After observing this I understand the reasoning for one way on Hiawassee Street,” said Green, “but I also have seen the congestion we would possibly have at Hamby and Savannah Streets.”

The motion passed unanimously.

Also at the meeting, the council voted to wait until a meeting was set up with the Rabun County Board of Education to continue talking about the cost of sewer.
