Council and Authority Discuss Water Rate and Charter

The Clayton City Council met with the Clayton-Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority regarding the wholesale water rate Tuesday night.

The discussion turned from the water rate to a deeper issue of the charter agreement that is in place between the city and the authority.

Both sides expressed interest in the possibility of changing the charter, and Clayton City Attorney Mitch Baker reasoned that what the two sides see as beneficial may have changed in the years since the charter was signed.

“It may be a difference between what the goal or the need was at the time it was created as opposed to what the felt need or goal is now,” said Baker.

In the end, the two sides agreed to continue discussions in order to reach some form of an agreement in the future.

Also at the council meeting, the Stekoa Creek Beauty Park was discussed.
