Construction has begun on New Water Tank in Rabun County

Construction has begun on a new water storage tank in Rabun County, says Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority (RCWSA) General Manager Brendan Thompson.  “The 750,000-gallon ground-level concrete tank was started last week with clearing the site for that.  Right now, we’re cutting trees and will be looking at grubbing the site probably over the next couple of weeks, moving soil, and looking to move our crews in to start the construction for that probably in the mid-April timeframe with a projected completion date of late September of 2023.  I’m really looking forward to that project.”  The tank has been named in memory of Greg Peters, who served many years as Vice Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors.  It is part of the RCWSA’s redundancy water project to replace the filters at the  Lake Rabun Water Treatment Plant, adds Thompson.  “This tank will be able to provide at least half a day’s volume to the City of Clayton.  We’re using it as a supplement to the Lake Rabun Water Treatment Plant because of the filter rehabilitation project, which will be our third big project that will be starting in January of 2024.  We will be using a combination of both plants while we do that filter rehabilitation and it will also improve pressures and volumes in the northern area as well as Clayton.”  The 750,000-gallon water storage tank will be constructed off Yorkhouse Road.
