Commissioners outline funding for Forward Rabun

An update to the county ordinance establishing Forward Rabun was approved by the Rabun County Board of Commissioners this week.  The Board approved an outline to fund the project Tuesday night, explains Rabun County Administrator Darrin Giles. “Forward Rabun is what we are branding our movement with the Chamber of Commerce, the TDA, and the Development Authority to all be under one roof, kind of a one-stop-shop if you will, at the new Welcome Center, which is located south of town at the corner of Seed Tick and U.S. 441.  The new ordinance is just kind of cleaning up how it is funded and we were under one of the old ordinances as to it is funded. There are only a couple of counties in the State of Georgia that even did it that way, so this new ordinance kind of cleans it up as to how the new Forward Rabun will be funded.” The Board also approved a resolution and bill of sale to the Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority for the gravity sewer infrastructure project to provide sanitary sewer service to the Rabun County Coroner’s complex, the Buildings and Grounds complex, and the golf course facility, adds Giles.  “It’s water and sewer infrastructure, which is around the golf course area and the new corners to the Buildings and Grounds Office. Back when the new Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority was established, commissioners at that time and the commissioners still today, think that water and sewer should be under one roof. I think the commissioners showed that by constructing this infrastructure, which was paid for by Water and Sewer SPLOST dollars and in conveying that infrastructure over to the Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority.” The Rabun County Board of Commissioners also made two appointments; Doug Wayne was reappointed to the Georgia Mountain Regional Commission Council and Juanita Shope was appointed to the Library Board.  Both appointments were unanimously approved.
