Clayton woman faces cruelty to children charges; Arrested in S.C. held for outstanding warrants from RCSO

A Clayton woman was arrested just over the border in Walhalla, South Carolina for speeding when law enforcement discovered she is a fugitive from justice.

Sandra Marlaine Small

According to records from the Rabun County Detention Center, Sandra Marlaine Small has active warrants for her arrest for violating her terms of probation stemming from a 2015 conviction of cruelty to children.

An officer from the Walhalla Police Department observed a driver traveling 60 miles in a 35-mph zone and initiated a traffic stop.

According to Paul Harris, Interim Police Chief of the Walhalla Police Department, the officer identified the driver as Small, 38, and learned she has outstanding charges from Rabun County for probation violation, manufacturing methamphetamine in front of children and hiding from law enforcement in another state or taking refuge in a different country in order to avoid arrest — otherwise known as fugitive from justice.

Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols said as soon as she completes the extradition process, deputies from the RCSO will pick her up from the Oconee County Detention Center and transport her to the Rabun County Detention Center.
