Clayton swears in Three New Councilmembers

Three people have taken the oath of office and stand ready to serve the citizens of the City of Clayton on the city council.  Friday morning, Jan. 3, 2020, Rabun County Probate Judge Lillian Garrett swore in David Cross, Kevin “Woody” Blalock, and John Bradshaw in front of family, friends, and city staff members at Clayton City Hall.  Cross shared these thoughts on the ceremony. “I look forward to serving the public and ready to dig into all the problems we have. Some of the goals I have are to make a smooth transition to what we have as far as communication between the board members instead of arguing and hopefully we can come up with a decision between the county and the city to have a better working relationship.”  Blalock hopes to be productive for the city.  “Try to help out, try to make good decisions, and help the city in a positive way those are my hopes.  No agenda, no goals, just listening and trying to be helpful in every way.”  Bradshaw looks forward to being back on the Clayton City Council.  “I’m just looking forward to being back on the council again, get back to studying up and learning all the stuff that has gone on in the four-years I’ve been missing, but I look forward to working with everyone.  As far as goals, the STS, I guess is the big one, and then the water, obviously, is everybody’s big one. Our water loss is just tremendous. I was looking in 2018, we lost 196 million gallons of water in 2018, that’s a lot of water, so we really got to get this thing fixed.”  The new Clayton City Council now consists of two women and three men.
