Clayton Sign Ordinance Amended Tuesday

The Clayton City Council held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, where one of the agenda items concerned an amendment to the city’s sign ordinance.

According to Clayton City Marshal, Scott Crane, the city council had three options when it came to the sign ordinance. One, to keep it as is. Two, to make amendments. And three, to write a brand new ordinance. The council elected to make an amendment, and the second reading was held during the meeting, and approved.

The amendment now states:

Section 34-31 Signs Permitted in NS, HB, CBD, and M-1 Zoning Districts

Section 34-31 (2) and (6) of the City of Clayton Municipal Ordinance Book shall be amended to read as follows:
(2) One identification sign per premises, freestanding, not exceeding 100 square feet in area, on which the name and nature of the business or other establishment operated on the premises as the principal use are shown. On no occasion shall more than one sign under Paragraph (2) or Paragraph (6) be allowed per property. No sign permitted under Paragraph (2) or (6) shall be allowed within 100 feet of any preexisting sign on any neighboring, or non adjoining property.

(6) Off-site signs (billboards) not exceeding 100 square feet in area. On no occasion shall more than one sign under Paragraph (2) or Paragraph (6) be allowed per property. No sign permitted under Paragraph (2) or (6) shall be allowed within 100 feet of any preexisting sign on any neighboring, or non-adjoining property.
