Clayton Ordinance Could Change, Creating Economic Boost

During Tuesday’s Clayton City Council work session, a handful of items were discussed, from technology upgrades to the employment retirement fund.

Ordinance amendments were also talked about, one in particular about a particular business that wants to expand its trends into the city of Clayton. City Marshal Scott Crane explains that a “growler” business has interest in setting up shop within the city.

A “growler” is a type of package store that serves beer on a tap system. Customers can bring their own bottle, fill it with beer, and then pay for it.

While a business of that nature would certainly bring in many customers from all over the state and the region, Crane says that one tiny detail in ordinance is preventing the business, or any other business of that caliber, from opening in Clayton. Crane says that the city looks to either change the current ordinance, or draft a new one, in order for the growler business to open in Clayton. He says that in turn, this could open more opportunities for Clayton economically, including microbreweries.

More information about the growler ordinance will be discussed at tomorrow’s Clayton City Council meeting at 4PM inside the Clayton City Courtroom.
