Clayton Mayor introduces City Complex Idea

The City of Clayton is planning for a better city complex.  The current City Hall and government offices on Highway 76 West are in need of upgrades.  Clayton Mayor Kurt Cannon recently made a presentation to the City Council about a city complex concept.  “So, we just introduced a new City Complex idea.  It has several parts to it.  We want to recognize our heritage and we want to make that part of that to recognize what our history is here.  We have asked Foxfire to participate in that with us and maybe even do a building there.  We are also partnering with some theater groups to hopefully incorporate a theater within the City Hall that could be used for performances of all kinds for our community.  Then also, some recreation parts.  We are partnering with a pickleball group in the community that is going to help raise funds for some pickleball courts and then add some other recreation activities that will happen in town.  Also, a facility like a performance barn, a wedding barn, or a music barn.  A place for people to come and enjoy family reunions, weddings, or things like that.  Then walking trails around the perimeter of the property.  Trying to make it where it’s very useful for our community, our citizens, and then also attractive for people to come in and use it for pickleball tournaments, for theater performances, for concerts, and do lots of different things.  So, it is making it part of our community.”  The county seat of Rabun County, the City of Clayton was incorporated in 1823.  According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the City has a population of 2,253 people.
