Clayton Looking to Make Changes to Sign and Zoning Ordinance

The Clayton City Council held their weekly work session last week, to better discuss the items that will be placed on the official meeting agenda tomorrow.

One of the items was discussed by city marshal Scott Crane, it was about either making changes to the city’s current sign and zoning ordinance, or re-writing it as a whole. The current ordinance was put into place in 1993, so, as you could imagine, the council is looking to revamp the ordinance.

Crane tells us that one example of the council’s plans to change, is that the current ordinance states that a business in downtown Clayton can have a sign that is 30 feet tall, with 100 square foot frontage.

That was city marshal Scott Crane describing some of the reasons why the ordinance is looking to change. According to Crane, there is another possibility with the Carl Vinson Institute at the University of Georgia. Crane says that the institute will work with the city by looking at their needs. Crane also says that he hopes to get community partners to work together, to look at the community as a whole, to see what their sign ordinance preferences are.

The Clayton City Council will hold their June meeting tomorrow at 4PM inside the Clayton City Courtroom.
