Clayton Council to hear First Reading of Alcohol Ordinance

First reading of an alcohol ordinance highlights a special called meeting of the Clayton City Council at 3pm Tuesday, July 9.  This ordinance will bring the city into compliance with the state, explains Clayton Zoning Administrator Scott Dills. “The ordinance is being updated and amended to incorporate the changes that occurred under state law for breweries, microbreweries, and distilleries. Also, we need to redefine food, it was not defined in the previous or existing ordinance.  We’re also putting fail-safes in to better protect the public, like service certification and the 50/50 food requirement will still exist. Basically, it is just to update an antiquated alcohol ordinance.” Dills tells more about the purpose of this new alcohol ordinance. “There shouldn’t be any issues. Basically, what is being put in the ordinance is already an accepted practice here in Clayton.  The change, of course, with the service certification will require one server on each shift to be certified and what they do is loo to learn for intoxication or drunkness, how to cut people off, to keep the roads safe basically.” The Clayton City Council holds first reading of the alcohol ordinance at 3pm Tuesday with a second reading scheduled for July 16 at which time the council will vote on the ordinance.  The meeting at Clayton City Hall is open to the public.
