Clayton applying for CDBG Grants to replace Water Lines

In order to repair an aging and overburdened utility infrastructure, the City of Clayton is applying for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG).   If awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the City will use these funds to replace water lines, says Clayton Mayor Kurt Cannon.  “So every two years, we have the ability to apply for more money from the CDBG and that’s Community Development Block Grants, and that money can be used toward infrastructure needs or other different things.  But as everyone knows, Clayton needs to replace a lot of water lines.  So, every time we have an opportunity we’re applying for those and this is the engineering that has to be in place to allow us to go after the money.  So, we’ve got one contract now we’re fixing to start work on and then we are applying for the next opportunity to do even more work to replace water lines.”  The City will be notified if they have received the CDBG grants in a few months.
