Clarkesville man sentenced to 60 years for child sex crimes

CLARKESVILLE — A convicted child molester will spend more than half a century in prison, a judge ordered Wednesday, for child sex crimes.

A sentencing hearing was held May 9 at the Mountain Judicial Circuit Court for a Clarkesville man who was found guilty by jury trial last week of 14 counts of sexual exploitation of children and one count of child molestation.

John Marvin Nix, 53, was sentenced by the Honorable B. Chan Caudell to serve a total of 59 years in prison, with one year on probation for his crimes.

Arrest reports obtained by WRBN/WGHC News indicated that Nix was originally charged with 16 counts of sexual exploitation of children after he turned himself in October of last year.

Assistant District Attorney Meredith Davis and Assistant District Attorney Ben Green presented the case on behalf of the State of Georgia and the District Attorney’s Office.

The case was investigated by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Investigator Richard Stein.
