Chase and Search in Habersham Co. end in Arrest

The subject of a Georgia State Patrol chase and hours-long manhunt in Habersham County on Monday has been arrested. Around 12:45pm, a man led troopers in a pursuit and then fled on foot from his vehicle near Tom Arrendale Interchange in an unincorporated area of Habersham County outside Clarkesville and Mt. Airy. The interchange is where Ga. 17 (Toccoa Highway), Ga. 15, and Ga. 365 intersect. A warning went out to the public as troopers believed he may be armed and dangerous and possibly was involved in a violent crime in another county. K-9 units, a helicopter, and ground personnel were called in to search for him. At 6:30pm, 50-year-old Rahim Abdullah was arrested in the area of the search. The Georgia State Patrol has charged Abdullah with driving under the influence, improper stopping, improper turn, speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, reckless driving, failure to obey a stop sign, and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer. He was booked into the Habersham County Detention Center.
