Central Turn Lanes only for Left Turns

The Georgia Department of Public Safety reports that central turn lanes are only to be used for making left turns.  We have all been in a spot where traffic is so bad, it’s tempting to turn into the central turn lane to wait for traffic to clear.  Unfortunately, this is not only unsafe, but it is illegal.  You may only enter a central turn lane for the purpose of making a left turn, at no more than 300 feet from the place you intend to turn.  The Georgia Department of Public Safety asks that you please stay out of the central turn lane if not making a turn as it may save you from a serious crash.
