Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day Responsibly

Friday, March 17, 2023, is St. Patrick’s Day.  Many will wear green in honor of the Irish and celebrate with alcohol.  Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols says if you plan to drink alcohol please do so responsibly.  “St. Patrick’s Day seems like it is associated with drinking, whether it’s a green drink or green beer.  It has just caught on as a drinking holiday for some reason.  So, we just ask people to be sensible and responsible.  If you are going to a bar or to a party at a house or somewhere, make arrangements before you go to have a sober driver to get you back home.  If it is a house or something, stay there where you are.  We don’t want people to not celebrate these holidays, whether it is this one or another one, but bottom line be responsible because alcohol can make you make poor decisions and those decisions can affect many lives; your own, your families, if you were to wreck and injure somebody else that person and their family.  So, have fun, stay safe, but please be responsible when it comes to getting behind that wheel and do not get behind the wheel if you have been drinking.”  In the United States, St. Patrick’s Day has been celebrated since before the country was formed. At times, the holiday has been a bit more of a rowdy one with green beer.  So, if you plan to drink, don’t count on the luck of the Irish to keep you safe, instead designate a driver.
