Celebrate Earth Day in Rabun

Monday, April 22nd is when people around the world will recognize all things eco-friendly and sustainable in celebration of Earth Day.

Although, you don’t need to live in a big city to partake in the festivities. Instead, focus your efforts on becoming active here in Rabun and celebrate the holiday by doing one thing that will make a positive impact on our community.

There are many simple options you can choose from that will put you on the path to becoming environmentally conscious such as recycling.

Currently, Rabun County has several recycling centers. All of which are equipped with easily identifiable stations where you can deposit your recyclables.

According to landfill waste management officials, recycling is very important as waste has a huge negative impact on the natural environment. Harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses are released from rubbish in landfill sites but recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste.

By simply just recycling here in Rabun County you can minimize habitat destruction and global warming which are some the immediate effects caused by deforestation.

Another way to celebrate Earth Day locally is to get involved with the Rabun County Chamber of Commerce’s Keep Rabun Beautiful movement.

As a part of the county-wide proclamation deemed by commissioners to become involved in the Great American Cleanup, Keep Rabun Beautiful hosts many opportunities where volunteers dedicate their spare time to picking up litter in various parts of our county.
