Candidates sound off in Tallulah Falls

The five individuals seeking office in the Town of Tallulah Falls in the upcoming Nov. 5, 2019, election sounded off Tuesday night at a Town Hall Candidate Forum.  Two candidates are vying for mayor, incumbent Teri Dobbs and challenger Mike Early, and three candidates are running for two open seats on the council, incumbent Mary Beth Hughes, and challengers Craig Weatherly and Joey Fountain.  They answered questions from a room full of concerned town residents, one of those was Monty Axon. “I thought it was a good forum. I think each candidate has an honest concern for the growth of the area and the community. There may be some differences in how they would like to see that happen but I think every candidate was honest and was fourth coming on what they would like to see done.  So, I thought it was a good forum for the people of Tallulah Fall to listen to.” Tallulah Falls residents will vote in the Nov. 5, 2019, municipal election at 201 West Savannah Street in Clayton. This is a polling location change from previous elections. The last day to register to vote in the November General Election is Oct. 7, 2019. At the Town Hall Candidate Forum, attendees were treated to a new sound system, which made it much easier to hear for some residents, tells Tallulah Falls Town Clerk Linda Lapeyrouse.  “They’ve been after us for a few months now to be able to hear a little better so we were glad to use some of our SPLOST as one of those projects. Council had approved up to $1,500 and we were able to get it done for about $700 so we’re excited about that and it turned out pretty well. It seemed like it helped people tonight at the Candidate Forum so we will be excited to use it next week at our council meeting.” Tuesday night’s Town Hall Candidate Forum was held in the Tallulah Falls Town Hall. Roughly 25 residents attended the event.
