Bomb Threat in Toccoa This Weekend

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office assists the City of Toccoa with a weekend threat.

The Interim Chief of the Toccoa Police Department Tim Jarrell said that authorities were notified of a bomb threat at the Toccoa Walmart on Sunday morning.

“At 11:06 a.m., Walmart contacted the 911 center and told that they had received three possibly prerecorded telephone calls saying there was a bomb in Walmart and they had an hour to get the employees out,” said Jarrell

The Toccoa Police Department, the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, and the Toccoa Fire Department all responded to Walmart and evacuated the premises.

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office was also called to the scene, as Sheriff Frank Andrews explained.

“About 11:41 a.m., I received contact from Sheriff Randy Shirley in Stephens County asking if we could assist them by sending down our bomb dog,” said Andrews. “We responded and were able to work with them and clear the store, and everything worked out well.”

The store was given the all-clear around 1 p.m. on Sunday. The investigation into the threat continues.
