73% of Rabun Co. Voters cast Ballots

Rabun County voters let their voices be heard in the 2020 General Election.  With 73% voter turnout, Rabun County Elections Supervisor Tammy Whitmire was pleased with participation but would have still like to have seen more.  “For active voters, we had 13,072 so to have over 10,000 of them come cast their votes I think that speaks a lot about Rabun County.  I’m so proud of our first-time voters.  We probably had, I’m not sure how many, but every day of early voting we had 30 or 40 new, young people, older people but first-time voters that cast their ballots, so we probably had 1,000 or more that was their very first election.  So, I’m proud of them that they came out and voted.  Great turnout, 73.66% is nothing to be unhappy about but of course, I’d like everybody to vote, I wanted 100% but I’m proud of the ones that came and cast their vote.”  Whitmire is grateful to her poll workers and the wonderful job they did in this election amid the COVID-19 pandemic.  “Well, I’m just so proud of my poll workers.  I can’t begin to say what a wonderful group of people we have here in Rabun County.  They stepped up to the plate.  They put the citizens of Rabun County first even though it was kind of scary working because they were risking getting COVID-19.  I’m just so proud of them because they served the people of Rabun County and they did it with style.  We had a wonderful day.  We had 5,575 people come and vote early.  We had 1,444 that came through today and we had 2.611 that cast their ballot by absentee.”  Election results are still unofficial.  The Rabun County Board of Elections will canvass the ballots to check for write-in votes and certify the election later this week.
