2 arrested on possession charges stemming from traffic stop

Deputies with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop after monitoring suspicious activity, but after a search conducted by K-9 Doug, a significant amount of meth was recovered.

Around midnight on Monday, deputies observed a white Ford Expedition pull into a local gas station and park next to a gas pump. According to the report, the passenger exited the vehicle, went into the gas station and got back in the vehicle before both occupants left and traveled South on 441.

After noticing suspicious activity, the deputy also observed deficient tires as well as no working tag lights.

Law enforcement initiated a traffic stop as the white Ford was turning into the local Walmart. Before approaching the driver, deputies found that the license plate was in fact not valid and was instead registered to a different vehicle entirely – a blue Ford Super Duty truck.

Law enforcement identified the driver as Preston Ryan Alexander, 28, of Dillard and the passenger was identified as Cameron Lee Clark, 29, of Tiger.

While speaking to the vehicle occupants, deputies observed both to be fidgeting and reaching for something between the center console.

K-9 Doug with the RCSO arrived on scene and conducted an “air sniff” to determine if there were illegal drugs in the vehicle. After K-9 Doug indicated a positive drug sniff, deputies searched the vehicle after obtaining consent from Alexander and located approximately 3.49 grams of meth, small plastic baggies and a weighing scale.

After denying ownership of the illegal substance, both Alexander and Clark were charged respectively with possession with intent to distribute meth and possession of drug-related objects.

Alexander received additional charges of driving while license suspended, removing or affixing a license plate to conceal the identity of a vehicle, tag light requirements, tire requirements, driving without insurance and an outstanding warrant for probation violation.

Both Alexander and Clark were arrested and transported to the Rabun County Detention Center.
