14-Year-Old killed in Single-Vehicle Crash

A single-vehicle crash Saturday night claimed the life of a 14-year-old.  The Georgia State Patrol reports that at 8:49pm, a 2006 Volvo XC90 was traveling south on Cox Lake Road in Mountain City when it exited the roadway and went into a ditch.  Then the driver, 20-year-old Zackery Lee Garner of Clayton, tried to reenter the roadway, but overcorrected, causing the Volvo to roll over, crossing the roadway, and striking a tree.  A passenger in the vehicle, 14-year-old Noah Owens, was thrown from the vehicle and pinned under it.  He died as a result of his injuries.  Garner was not injured.  He was charged with homicide by vehicle in the second degree, reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, driving while unlicensed, failure to maintain lane, and not wearing a seatbelt.
