.05 Good, .04 Better, Says Sheriff

The National Transportation Safety Board makes recommendations for lowering the legal limit.

According the to NTSB Twitter Account, the board voted to ask states to lower the blood alcohol content required to be considered drunk driving to .05 from .08 during a meeting Tuesday morning.

Rabun County Sheriff Frank Andrews said the he supports lowering the legal limit in an effort to reduce the number of impaired motorists on the roadways.

“I agree with them, and I would like to see them drop it down to .04,” said Sheriff Andrews. ” With your CDL license, if you are caught at .04, they will take your commercial drivers license. I feel your regular license should be the same.”

Andrews also encouraged citizens to never drink and drive.

“Well, anytime you drink and and you get out and drive, you’ve had too many,” said Sheriff Andrews ” You should always find a designated driver if you are going to be out partying, or if you are just going to be having several drinks.”

The NTSB says alcohol can affect driving-related performance even at BAC levels as low as 0.01.
