Two Structure Fires in Rabun Co. in 12 Hours 

It was a busy Saturday night for firefighters.  Rabun County Fire Services responded to two structure fires within 12 hours.  At 5:28pm on Jan. 25, Rabun County Fire was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 697 Oscar Rock Road off of Plum Orchard. The first personnel on scene advised of a two-story structure with light smoke showing from the crawlspace vents. Upon entering, the fire appeared to have started in the crawlspace in a heat pump and penetrated the kitchen floor. The fire was contained quickly with the heaviest damage located in the kitchen and laundry area. Fire units were on the scene until 8:17pm. No one was home at the time of the fire.  At 3:38am on Jan. 26, a structure fire was reported at 163 Stancil Lane in Wiley. The first units on scene advised of a well involved single-family dwelling. A water shuttle was established because of no water sources in the area. Additional tankers were dispatched to provide water supply from the distant hydrant. The Red Cross was notified. Fire personnel and apparatus remained on the scene until just after 8am. The cause of the fire is undetermined.  Photo of the structure fire on Stancil Lane.
