Time to get Vaccinated from the Flu

Flu season is officially upon us and now is the time to get vaccinated.  The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) encourages everyone to get an annual flu vaccine to protect themselves and to prevent transmission of this illness.  Medical experts agree that the best way to protect against serious flu risks is by vaccination. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said last year that 80,000 people died from the flu.  Every individual over the age of six months should get a flu vaccine. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies that protect against the flu to develop in the body. Receiving the flu vaccine does not cause the flu.  Flu can attack anyone regardless of age and pediatric patients are among the most vulnerable. Wash your hands frequently and limit your exposure to those with the flu to lower your risk of catching the virus. Flu season in Georgia typically runs from October to May.
