Three Arrested in Two Incidents Involving Prescription Drugs

Three men are arrested in two separate incidents involving prescription drugs, both on Thursday.

The first incident took place around 4:30 in the morning on Highway 441 here in Clayton.

According to a report on file with the Clayton Police Department, on Thursday morning a 2008 Chrysler Sebring was driving south going 67 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone, causing an officer to initiate a traffic stop.

The report states that upon talking with the occupants, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was smelled, and both the driver and the passenger admitted to drinking alcohol.

According to the report, the passenger then became nervous and fidgety while talking to officers. After obtaining permission from the driver to search the vehicle, officers found Loratab and Xanex.

The passenger, identified as Michael Lee Jones of Stockbridge, Georgia, was arrested on two counts of not having prescription drugs in their original containers.

The driver, identified as Mark Howard Jones, also of Stockbridge, was arrested on the charges of DUI and speeding in excess of maximum state limits.

The second incident occurred in Lakemont just after 10:00 p.m.

According to that report on file with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted two vehicles parked on the side of the road on Highway 441 in Lakemont.

The report states that the deputy smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle, and asked to speak with the driver.

The deputy asked permission to search the vehicle, as well as the person of the driver, and consent was given.

The report states that Oxycodone was found on the driver, identified as Thomas Fountain IV of Clayton, GA. He was arrested on the charges of possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, as well as not having prescription drugs in their original containers.
