Thanksgiving Cooking Safety Tips

Thanksgiving is a day for food and family. Its also a day to be aware of safety when it comes to cooking and fires. Fire Chief Marty Dixon offers tips to avoid fire hazards…

“You want to make sure you keep an eye on the kitchen and the stove, and oven, don’t leave it cut on, make sure you got your pots turned where the handles aren’t hanging off the stove. Also turkey frying has become a popular thing, just be aware the size turkey you’ve got verses the pot you’ve got to cook it in. Those turkey fryers are for outdoor use only and if you don’t thaw your turkey out completely it’ll cause the grease to splatter out and that can cause a fire.”

Marty adds that its best to use your fryer in an open space in the yard or on concrete, not on your patio.
