Six Wrecks in Rabun County Last Week

There were six automobile accidents in Rabun County last week.  The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office reports that the first wreck happened on Sept. 1, at 3am on Highway 28 North near Luther Owens Road.  According to the motor vehicle crash report, a 35-year-old driver of a 2000 Dodge Dakota went around a curve and the tire dropped off the side of the road causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which struck an eight-foot Boxwood bush.  No one was injured in the one-vehicle accident. The second wreck occurred on Sept. 2, at 10:45am on Georgia 15 at the intersection with Walmart. A 71-year-old driver of a 2018 Subaru Outback hit the rear of a 69-year-old driver of a 2006 Mercedes Benz while in the yield lane attempting to turn into the retail store as another vehicle crested the hill causing the first vehicle to stop suddenly.  No one was injured in the two-vehicle wreck. The third accident happened on Sept. 2, at 12:04pm on Georgia 15 at the intersection with Tiger Connector. A 62-year-old driver of a 2018 Chevy Colorado struck a 33-year-old driver of a 2016 Ford that was stopped waiting to turn into a local business. No one was injured in the two-vehicle accident. The fourth wreck occurred on Sept. 4, at 6:10pm on Highway 76 West near Persimmon Road.  A 65-year-old driver of a 2003 Ford Econoline pulling a trailer was attempting to maneuver into the left lane to avoid a collision with a truck when a 20-year-old driver of a 1999 Ford Explorer was attempting to pass when the trailer made contact with the vehicle. No one was injured in the two-vehicle wreck. The fifth accident happened on Sept. 6, at 9:20am on John Beck Dockins Road at its intersection with Georgia 15. A 42-year-old driver of a 2016 Ford Explorer struck a 74-year-old driver of a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass as they both were attempting to merge onto the highway with oncoming traffic.  No one was injured in the two-vehicle wreck. The sixth wreck occurred on Sept. 6, at 1:36pm on Highway 76 West near Highway 197. A 38-year-old driver of a 2015 Mercedes Benz had a tire blowout causing the vehicle to strike a 67-year-old driver of a 2009 Chevy Tahoe on the right side of the vehicle causing it to go into a ditch. A 69-year-old passenger in the Tahoe was taken by EMS to the Towns County Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the two-vehicle collision.
