Rabun County Sheriff selected to attend F.B.I.’s Inaugural National Command Course

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office reports that Sheriff Chad Nichols was honored to be selected as the sole attendee from Georgia to attend the F.B.I.’s Inaugural National Command Course in Stafford, Virginia. The F.B.I. provides several executive level training programs to larger law enforcement agencies but recently recognized the need to provide the same type of programs to smaller agencies with less than 50 sworn employees. The NCC participants studied current and emerging trends, ways to establish trust in the community and building on that through leadership and practical policies, focusing on officer wellness that will lead to better overall personal and organizational health, and exploring new processes to overcome obstacles. The network created from this event provides a contact for each executive from almost every state in the country. The participating chiefs and sheriffs were able to exchange plans, identify problems, and create solutions with their peers; develop new thoughts and ideas; and share successes of their own communities. “It was humbling and truly an honor to be selected as the only representative from Georgia to attend the first-ever training conducted by the FBI that focused solely on smaller law enforcement agencies such as ours. To be able to attend this caliber of training and all of the expenses paid for by the FBI was a privilege. I look forward to using the knowledge and relationships gained to make me a more effective leader in these challenging times in law enforcement and in our country. With all the different states represented, it was quickly realized we all have similar challenges and with those similar successes while all living in communities that care for their law enforcement officers who proudly serve their local communities. I would like to thank the FBI Atlanta Field Office, the FBI, and the FBI Training Academy for providing this course and selecting me to attend,” said Sheriff Nichols.
