Snow causes Five Wrecks in Rabun Co.

Deputies with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office worked five wrecks on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, after over four inches of snow fell in the county.  The first motor vehicle crash occurred at 9:46am on Georgia 15 at its intersection with Highway 441 South. The driver of a 2003 Ford Ranger told a deputy that he was going south and his truck started sliding in the snow and left the roadway, striking a large concrete culvert pipe that was being stored in a field on the side of Georgia 15.  No one was injured in the single-vehicle wreck. The second crash happened at 10:18am on Longview Road. The driver of a 2018 Jeep Renegade stated that she came down the hill and could not slow down or turn because of the snow and struck a tree. No one was injured in the single-vehicle wreck. The third crash occurred at 10:43am on Stekoa Falls Road.  The driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado said that he was coming through the curve when he lost control of his vehicle due to the snow causing him to strike a fire hydrant. No one was injured in the single-vehicle wreck. The fourth motor vehicle accident happened at 10:50am on Ice Plant Road. A 2018 Chevrolet 1500 was traveling too fast to stop due to the snow and hit a 2015 Chevrolet 3500.  Minor injuries were suffered by two of the occupants of the 3500. The fifth wreck occurred at 12:50pm on Georgia 15 at its intersection with File Street. The driver of a 2012 Toyota Tacoma told the deputy that she was going around a car stuck in the snow and hit another vehicle. No one was injured in the two-vehicle wreck.
