Rabun Co. Sheriff’s Office releases 2019 Statistics and Activities

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office has released the annual summary of services in the community for 2019. The Patrol Division responded to 7,603 calls that were dispatched through Rabun County 911. Sheriff’s deputies completed 1,339 incident reports, 325 accident reports, and issued 580 citations along with 875 warnings. Deputies provided an array of services, including 396 vehicle unlocks, 1,149 business checks, and responded to 352 business and residential alarms. To proactively prevent crime, deputies patrolled 246,298 miles throughout the year. As a result of vigilant drug and dealer interdiction, deputies made 166 drug arrests for 2019. The K-9 Unit was deployed 79 times to assist in searching for drugs and missing or wanted people. The Criminal Investigation Division had a busy year with 222 assigned cases; 170 cases were ultimately resolved resulting in an 83% case resolution for 2019. This is a 10% increase in case resolution from 2018.  A total of 1,255 people were processed through the Rabun County Detention Center in 2019. An average daily population of 94 inmates were housed in the jail. Detention officers transported 470 inmates to court and 20 people to various mental health facilities across the state. So, it was a busy year, says Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols. “We had another busy year at the Sheriff’s Office in performing our duties and mandates that we are required to do to community service programs to releasing our Smart Phone App. So, we’ve just had a busy year all the way around and it wouldn’t have been possible without the hard-working men and women of the Sheriff’s and without the support of our community.
