Notice of Property Tax Increase in Clayton

The City of Clayton has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 1.38 percent. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at the City of Clayton Courtroom and live-streamed on Facebook on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at 3:30pm.  Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase will be at the City of Clayton Courtroom and live-streamed on Facebook on Friday, September 11, 2020, at 7:30am and at the City of Clayton Courtroom and live-streamed on Facebook on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at 3:30pm.  This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 8.769 mills which is the same as 2019’s millage rate, although an increase of 1.38 percent mills from the rollback percentages. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 8.650 mills. However, if your property did not increase in value, then your tax amount should be the same as your 2019 City tax bill.  For example, if your 2019 property’s fair market value was $100,000 and has not been increased, then your 2020 City tax bill will be the same. However, should your property’s fair market value have increased to $125,000, then the 2020 tax will increase by $14.88. If you have the City of Clayton’s Homestead Exemption or a Senior Exemption, then the tax bill will be slightly lower.
