New School for Rabun County

The Board of Education voted to bring MEC the Mountain Education Center to Rabun County last night! MEC a charter school gives students that are falling behind a better chance at graduation. Richard Burns of the Mountain Education Center said in his presentation to the board….

“Our function in life is to help those kids that are having the most trouble. We think we do a very good job at that, and we want to thank you for the opportunity to come in here and help.”

MEC offers students in need the ability to set a learning pace that better suits them as an individual and also offers Credit recovery classes for a small fee of $150 per class.

“We feel like its a great time to put this in, We know we have students that fit in to this. We take every student that walks in to the door, but that doesn’t mean we’re the right thing for every student that walks in the door and we know that.”

said Superintendent Matt Arthur who is very excited about the program and feels it will be great for the community.

The program will most likely be located in the South Rabun Elementary Building and hopes to start at the beginning of next year.
