New Fire Station on Chechero

A new fire station is set to be built in Rabun County. The new structure will replace the old Chechero station which is outdated. The county has land just down the street from the existing station that is already being prepared for the build says County Administrator Jim Bleckley…

“The process of building it’s already started, the land has been cleared and it’s ready. We just hired Pat Thompson to design the building, do all the specs, do all the project once we sign a deal with him.”

According to Bleckley the money for the fire houses has been set aside from SPLOST…

“SPLOST number 5 that was done six years ago, there was some money set aside for fire houses, about a million dollars. We are just now spending that money on these fire houses that we’re starting to build. On the current SPLOST that just started SPLOST number six, there was another million and a half dollars that was set aside for that, to continue the process, cause we have a total of 5 fire houses to build.”

The price of a new fire station falls somewhere between $300,000 and $400,000 dollars.
