North Carolina State Troopers say a Sapphire man who crashed his car on Walnut Creek Road in Macon County last Wednesday was driving while impaired.

The driver, 20 year old Cameron Moss, was critically injured in the single-car accident; his passenger was injured as well.

According to the Bryson City Post of the Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 9 p.m. September 12. Moss was traveling southeast in a 1993 Jeep SUV when he veered off the left side of the road in a sharp curve and struck a tree.

He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Angel Medical Center. The passenger only sustained minor injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts, according to the Highway Patrol.

Moss was also charged with reckless driving.
