N.C. unemployment rate ticks up in March

New information from the North Carolina Department of Commerce shows a slight uptick in the state’s jobless rate.

According to the latest figures, the unemployment rate rose from 5.3 to 5.4 percent from February to March. During March, Professional and Business Services noticed the largest employment increase with 2,700 jobs. Trade, Transportation, and Utilities, and Manufacturing also saw gains of more than 1,000 jobs. The Construction sector experienced the biggest decrease in employment—down 2,400 jobs.

North Carolina’s March 2015 unemployment rate remains one percent lower than March 2014.
