Local District Attorney Could Face Issue With Appointment

District Attorney of the Mountain Judicial Circuit District, and Tiger native, Brian Rickman, has served that position since 2008. He, along with two others, were appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to the Georgia Court of Appeals.

An Atlanta attorney challenged Governor Deal’s authority to appoint the three to the court of appeals, arguing on behalf of the petitioners by saying that the judicial seats must be filled by election, according to the State Constitution.

Last Thursday, an Atlanta judge ruled that Deal’s appointments were constitutional.

Brian Rickman, Amanda Mericer, and Nels Peterson were appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to the State Court of Appeals, expanding the field from 12 members to 15.

The three are slated to begin their term on January 1st.
